A leaf pile

smoke rises

tiny seeds dropped in fertile soil

hundreds of rings

inside tree stump

footsteps across train tracks

destination of cargo

unknown

robins nest in gutter

insects scurry under the face

of hose water

a cube of ice in tall glass

withers

as the ragged T-shirt begins

a new journey as a dust rag

old love letters tossed on cold basement floor

ink fades

as the casket is lowered

beneath the dirt

worms motivated,

design a new home base.
