Eternally swerving on the detour of life’s path less travelled
They said don’t walk into the fire, so I jumped over it
They said study hard, so I partied all night
They said keep your wits, so I went crazy
They said you have to fit in, so I walked upside down, backwards into the woods
They said bring a flashlight, so I dove into the dark
They said you should settle down, so I wandered at noon and 3 am
They said you’ll hurt yourself, and I got cuts, bruises, sprains, strains, concussions and tears
They said we know what’s best, so I hopped on the train tracks
They said don’t push too hard, so I crumbled in exhaustion and got right back up again and again
For some reason, only the mountaintop sunrise crystal clear perception beyond limited vision knows why
I had to be this way
Eternally
Swerving
On the detour
Of life’s path less travelled.
