The pain was excruciating.
With each step I felt it in the back of my ankles. Throbbing. Constantly. No relief. No respite.
Achilles pain is brutal. If you’ve ever had it you know. If not, consider that a blessing.
It’s the kind of pain that forces you to take immediate action. You just can’t take it anymore. You are fed up with it.
This is when most people turn to painkillers, experts, physical therapy, surgeries etc..
What happens when you are at your wits end.. you begin to seek a solution. You will do anything to get rid of that pain.
At that point the pleasure/pain principle is clear. We seek pleasure as human beings but mostly, we want to avoid pain. To get rid of it.
So what do you do next? Whether its an injury to your achilles or somewhere else. Back pain, shoulder, knee, elbow, neck, foot .. you name it.. I’ve had most of it.
Only when you can’t take it anymore do you find a way.
And since I’m wired to find my own way, I start to experiment. Always with movement. See what I can do. What hurts to do.. how much range of motion do I currently have.. how far can I push it.. repeat the reps. Move more.
It’s not so much about what you do.. but the inner state that you reach that allows you to be open to new ideas and solutions.
You’ll try anything at that point.
Sometimes that’s what it takes to wake us up.
Pain.
It’s just the nature of the beast.
But the one thing I’ve found in these experiences is that they are great opportunities to learn. To find a gem in life. Something that no book or coach or expert could ever teach you.
It can only come through that intense pain and focus on discovering a way to overcome. Get stronger. Adapt. Evolve.
Transcend.
When you are fed up, the truly remarkable becomes a possibility.
I’ve seen it many times.
Cheers to your strength
