Take the Trip

Looking back on experiences that were remarkable and memorable, most of them had one thing in common:

Spontaneity.

A trip to the desert was a perfect example.

I flew out there to meet my cousin for a few days. He had a work conference. I was free to do whatever I wanted.

One day I rented a vehicle and drove an hour into Valley of the Fire park.

Moments that stand out about that trip are:

Driving on near-empty roads in the bright hot sun.

Wide open big blue sky.

Tunes blaring with windows down.

A park with magnificent red and brown rocks of all shapes and sizes. Feeling like walking on planet Mars.

Snakes sunning themselves in the late morning heat.

The sound of gravel under sneakers.

Birds of prey occasionally flying overhead.

A stillness in the air. Radiating energy beneath the surface.

Climbing on rocks, taking pictures. Big red mountainous formations with a bright blue background.

The temperature in the mid 90’s but no sweat on my head or pits. Deep breaths of the dry desert air. Soothing. Free to roam.

When you are hundreds of miles away from home, yet feel more at peace. Makes me wonder if I was born in the wrong place or if it’s just the next destination.

Craving the next spontaneous adventure.

I remind myself… take the trip.

Creation. Transformation. Metamorphosis play. Onward. To float over desert expanse, on a breeze.
